Where buried: 41 yds north of west door of church.

Description: Family grave consisting of a flat gravestone with 2 upright headstones and 2 footstones, all mounted on a large stone plinth which has the vestiges of iron railings (probably removed in WW2). The LH upright contains an inscription to Midshipman Edmund Grindall, youngest son of Sir Richard, and the RH upright contains one to Lt Festing Horatio Grindall, 3rd son of Sir Richard. The flat stone is dedicated to Sir Richard and his wife Katherine.

Unfortunately all these inscriptions are now virtually illegible.

Dimensions: Base plinth: 201 cm × 289 cm
Gravestone: 101 cm × 184 cm
Each headstone: 75 cm × 160cm
Each footstone: 47 cm × 44 cm

[NB As the inscriptions are illegible, the following transcriptions have been obtained from the Church Registers, and do not follow the layout on the stones]

LH Upright:

Here lies deposited the remains of Mr Edmund

GRINDALL, Midshipman RN, youngest son of

Vice Admiral Grindall and Katherine his wife,

who departed this life 21 September 1811 age 20

RH Upright:

Here lies deposited the body of Lt Festing Horatio

GRINDALL, RN, 3rd son of Vice Admiral Grindall

and Katherine his wife, who departed this life 23

May 1812 age 25

Gravestone:

Also the remains of Sir Richard GRINDALL,

Admiral, RN, who died 23 May 1820 age 69, also

Katherine his wife who died 6 February 1831

age 72
