Description: The inscription is flanked by two columns topped by crocketed pinnacles. Above is an arch containing a coat of arms with Neptune and a unicorn. Above the arms is the word ‘Temeraire’ and below ‘Redoutable et Fougeux’.

Transcription

to the memory of

ADMIRAL SIR ELIAB HARVEY

knight grand cross of the bath, member of parliament

for this county for 21 years from 1800 to 1812,

and from 1820 to 1830;

third son of william harvey, esq.

of rolls in this county,

and emma his wife, daughter and co-heiress of

stephen skinner, esq.

he was born on the 5th of december, 1758,

and died at rolls on the 20th of february 1830.

he entered the navy in the year 1769, and was in constant and

active service in america, the west indies,

and the channel, for 40 years. he was particularly

distinguished at the battle of trafalgar,

where he commanded the temeraire of 98 guns, which was

selected by lord nelson to be his supporting ship.

he married the lady louisa nugent, youngest daughter of

robert earl nugent by whom he had nine children

3 sons who died in his life time and 6 daughters who survived him.

also to the memory of

WILLIAM HARVEY

youngest son of the above admiral sir e harvey, g.c.b.

he was born on the 23rd of december 1801 and died

on the 3rd of march 1823
