Description: Headstone located against a wall on the west side of the church. The graveyard has been cleared and the headstone moved from its original site.

WALL PLAQUE, in marble, on west wall inside St Swithin’s church, Walcot, Bath. Coat of arms above inscription, with the motto “AD ALTIORA”

Transcription

sacred to the memory of

sir EDWARD BERRY, baronet,
knight commander of the most honourable and military order
of the bath,
and rear admiral of the red squadron of his majesty’s fleet,
he departed this life 13th of february 1831,
in the 63rd year of his age.

the distinguished services of sir EDWARD BERRY,
are recorded in the annals of his country,
he was the friend and companion of LORD NELSON, under whose command
he fought at the battle of st vincent, the nile, and trafalgar;
he commanded h:m:ship agamemnon at the battle of st domingo,
and was honoured by his sovereign with three medals,
for great naval victories.
